TEOTWAWKI? -- Y2K: THE MILLENNIUM BUG
Had it not been headed off in the nick of time, it very well might have been "the end of the world as we know it." But now, the Y2K computer bug is rapidly fading in all our memories, and in a few more years, will be just about forgotten altogether. In the interests of preserving our memory of this historical curiosity, this website will continue to provide links to Y2K-related websites and books, while such still exist.
- Gary North's "My Y2K and Welcome to It." - Worst-Case Scenario.
There's good news and bad news. The apparent good news is that most experts regard Gary North's views of the problem to be extreme, and thus highly unlikely to occur remotely closely to the extent that he foresees. The bad news is that, well into 1999, with mere months remaining, no one really knows what Y2K will bring -- and Gary could be right! And if that happens, then the year 2000 will indeed be TEOTWAWKI... the end of the world as we know it. (To get the best perspective, across the spectrum from the folks who think that Y2K will be a "bump in the road," to those who envision our world being regressed perhaps a century or so, Gary's site is well worth inclusion in your study. The best course of action, after all, just may be to hope for the best while preparing for the worst.)
Post-year 2000 comment: It is heartening to note that Gary has retained his massive, 6,000-article archive on Y2K, and is keeping it available for historians and history buffs to access. I hope that never changes, for it makes fascinating reading!
- Welcome to My Nightmare! - Radio Shows on Y2K - The Missler Report
Before 2000 arrived, Chuck Missler was providing regular news reports on Y2K, and his web page on this topic was:
http://www.y2knightmare.com/believer-radio-missler.html. I said, back then, "This site will provide you with some of the best radio news reports,
shows and interviews on the upcoming Y2K nightmare. You may find it extremely helpful to 'listen' while you read!"
Today, the multi-talented and -faceted Missler continues to fascinate without missing a beat, even though no one has Y2K to kick around anymore.
This link takes you to the home page of his company/organization, . He also has written many interesting books, including a very thought-provoking one on the
Bible Codes, published by Armageddon Books.
- y2ktoday
The website of Infrastructure Defense, Inc. As Y2K approached, I described their site, then located at http://www.y2ktoday.com/modules/home/default.asp, as follows: Fact-based presentations of the problem, and analyses. Quite balanced. An example, noted on March 27, 1999, was this story from Reuters: Russia Calls off Y2K cooperation with U.S. This description followed: "Russia's Defence Ministry called off cooperation with the United States on the so-called millennium computer bug on Friday in response to NATO air strikes on Yugoslavia, Interfax News Agency said." Typically, a link is provided to the complete story. (I give this site 5 stars for balance, accuracy, and thoroughness of presentation.)
And today, in their own words: "iDEFENSE offers powerful tools to meet the needs of every company that does business in
cyberspace. We provide these services by drawing on our unparalleled understanding of the
critical infrastructure and our comprehensive knowledge base that is constantly updated from
a wide variety of open, proprietary, and government sources. iDEFENSE is a global
organization with headquarters locations in the US and the UK."
