Dolans' Show Q&A

The Dolans

Here are the Q&A that had been prepared beforehand for the
radio show on 7-19-08, before a technical glitch caused
loss of the signal, shortly after the show began.

What expenses do companies cover, at no cost to the driver?

They always pay for the fuel, so the cost of gas is of no concern to the driver. And they always pay to get drivers home again. Usually by air, unless it's a short trip, or the driver prefers to return by land. This is expense money, and is not taxable income. The remainder of it is turned in at the end of the trip, and then the driver is paid, based on the number of miles driven. 35 cents per mile is average pay, so a trip halfway across the country typically would pay about $500.

Are the high gas prices slowing RV and other vehicle sales?

While the sales of some RVs have slowed a bit, the market for those is still strong. Because these vehicles aren't for everyday use, in most cases. They are vacation vehicles, and often park for several days or weeks at a time, at campgrounds.

And, it is only brand-NEW RVs that are being delivered. Folks who can afford those are having no problem with gas prices. Meanwhile, society always has a steady need for new specialty vehicles, such as school busses, ambulances, UPS delivery vans, and all the other types of vehicles we never see being delivered on trucks. These factors make this one of the most recession-proof jobs available to a wide range of people.

Is this a good opportunity for seniors?

Yes, very much so. Of the 100,000 people who are doing this job in North America, fully one-third of that workforce is OVER 65 years old. There is no upper age limit for this job. For seniors, this is one of the BEST jobs available in terms of being meaningful, enjoyable, and lucrative.

How easy is it to get started in this job?

For those having the resources we provide, it is very easy. That's because there's a lot of turnover due to so many doing it who are over 65. As they retire from this, those positions open up for people of all ages. About 5,000 new jobs become available, per month.

Can couples do this job?

Yes. 40% of those doing this are couples, whether they be married... friends... whatever. The other 60% are singles. Singles doing this full-time typically can earn $50,000 a year. Full-time couples typically make $65-80k/year.

Can this job be done PART-time?

Yes. In fact, one-tenth of the entire workforce has a different job during the week, and then earn an additional $200 or more by doing this on weekends, for as few or many weekends during the year as they choose to do it.

What are the requirements?

Be 18 or older, have a valid drivers license and a decent driving record. It doesn't need to be perfect. Just no bad violations in the last 2-3 years. And be a person who loves to drive and see new places. There are NO educational requirements. A person cannot be overqualified or underqualified, educationally, for this.

Is this a good stopgap job for people who've been laid off?

Yes. It can be ideal for that, since no cross-training is necessary, the pay is good, and it's pretty easy to get started on short notice.
